Figure I am different from most folks, my posts here show that. I just want to post the ways that I relax and see if anyone else here finds them as I do. I suspect several will agree.
Sharping knives
Cleaning fire arms
Reloading
Fishing
Smoking a good cigar
Smoking a pipe
Sitting in the sun with a purring fluffy kittens cat in my lap
Petting any dog
Watching children play
Shining brass
Monthly boot care
Picking berries/nuts
A good adult beverage
Looking at my ammo stock
Reading reloading manuals
Smelling fresh cut hay, honey suckles and wild roses
Breaking down bulk meat to serving size and storing
Counting change
Gardening
Whittling

These are most of the things that relax me, there are more. I would be interested to hear from our group if any one else enjoys these things. Yes, most of them are just me by my lonesome and in no order.

Especially seeing and enjoying the scent of a new morning; summer or winter.
I enjoy cooking and baking as well.

I haven't smoked a cigar in more than 40 years but do sometimes think I should get one and step out on the back porch with it for a while.

Other than having to give up my pipe some years ago it looks like a list that I would find relaxing as well.

Just wish you were closer. I have plenty of guns, boots, and knives that could use some attention. I would even be willing to spring for the adult beverages. Out West we are enjoying one of the best Indian Summers I can remember in recent years. Not quite crisp morning but slowly turning leaves and absolutley beautiful clear sunny days in the upper 70's. So relaxing I think I may have even nodded off a time or 2 today. :D

Some good activities there. I would add turning something on a lathe, cleaning a rusty flea-market "find" on a wire wheel, and fitting a new handle to a hatchet or axe head.

Shooting and reloading.
Building and fying model airplanes.
Watching TV.
Listening to NPR while reloading. :D :D

Blowing/raking,burning leaves. On the schedule for today, along with some sun and 55 degrees. A glorious fall day. The Stihl saw may come out, maybe a fire in the barrel later. A bottle of Clarion River Red, from Wilcox Winery, Wilcox Penn..

The list is good and I can relate to most of it.

I'll add:
Holding my 1911 or Ruger Scout.
A cup of coffee and a new American Rifleman or newspaper.
A good and long walk, probably something I enjoy most.
A good Bible study.
Conversation with one of my best friends.
Repairing my old tractor or welding up some tool or implement for a neighbor or friend who had written it off as hopelessly broken.
Watching a young child with a puppy.
Building a wood fire in my shop stove, listening to talk radio and tinkering with some repair task.
The Rugerforum.......most of the time.

I'll risk my reputation as a reasonably sane man here, but I like mowing and trimming grass. No phone, no hassles, easily measured progress and good results you can admire when finished.

Oh, and for some reason or another, I like the monthly Gen-Set exercising and testing. Maybe because I view that as a survival tool or luxury when the power is out. Either way I actually look forward to it.

Studying the scriptures
Hunting
Hiking
Fishing
Yoga
Running
Cycling
Horsing around with my kids
A quiet dinner with my wife
A cup of morning coffee on my day off

Tying Flies
Then landing Brookies!
Woodworking
Reloading
Shooting
Cold Brew on a hot day
Not necessarily in that order. ps

No one's list so far includes "physical interactions with the opposite gender".
Mine does.
Add :
.An hour or so loading on the Dillon.
.A decent bourbon reclining in FC-upper deck on the way home from Narita. ;)
. Any walk, hunting or not, watching a happy English Setter work the field.
. Any nap in my hammock.

"Figure I am different from most folks..."

What? Every East Tennessee "good-old-boy" is different than anyone else..
in a good way!

I've got a river over here calling my name! Guess I'd better go see what's what?
Leaving Tuesday for a little trout fishing until Friday, come visit...
look for a khaki colored Rubicon and a guy with a smile.. on the Tellico River!

I'd say steelhead fishing, but naw, that's more like war ! I'd have called in airstrikes a few times, if I could'a. Nothing like steelhead fishing to get ya to use up a whole months supply of cuss words in one day, sigh.

I go for everything on here minus the smoking. Still think about it but try not to. quit awhile ago.

Just wish I had more time for relaxing. Life happens.

Taking a walk in the woods only excites me to the upcoming seasons.
Same with time with the wife, not seasons ya dirty mined, excitement.
I do not have a lathe but do remember how relaxing it was.
I do not remember but did I include a good piece of cedar and a sharp knife?
Fishing is kinda relaxing, well no, it is me against the fish contest.
I used to tie big flies for Sauger, that was nice.
Taking a nap with my little dog is good.

I posted this after putting on a Bandaid. I will sharpen knives until I bleed somewhere. Be it by accident or testing on my arm or leg hair. I might be a hoarder. I have 50+ daily carry knives, most I have 2 of. When one gets dull I get another and put the less than shaving one in the box. I always warn my wife when I have sharpened the kitchen knives so she will be extra careful.

I had just thought about the things that relaxed me the most before I posted. Your right, no boss. Vacations are not relaxing, I just got back from a week at the beach.
I like to be by my self doing something just for me.
I do not think I ever fished Tellico, but I did fish Citico for years.
Just seemed odd when I thought about the things I like. I do not know many folks who enjoy as I do.

Our dogs
Shooting anything
Knife sharpening
A good cigar
A properly made Jack and Coke
Mowing
Cutting firewood
Cooking/BBQ
Firearm cleaning
Cowboys football/Rangers baseball
Working on any aircraft (it is my job but I really do like it)

As you see hunting and fishing aren't there. I like both but have never been good at either. I tend not to do things I am not good at.

I too enjoy mowing (riding mower) for the reasons given, hiking, hunting, tracking, fishing, out on the lake with the Wave Runner. Grooming the dogs. A good cop of coffee. Day dreaming about good times!

Was the best part of my marriage Welder.

Nice list Volshooter. I can relate to most of it. I've got a poker table in the basement that is used often for most of what you listed. A quirky thing for me is I enjoy maintaining my two humidors maybe more than I enjoy smoking cigars. Not a huge collection of cigars mind you but a decent amount, some aged over 10 years. I rotate them yearly and made labels showing date purchased etc. My favorite part is opening the humidors 2 or three times a week to let them breathe. I stick my face in it each time to smell the aroma.

I just figured out why I have been so relaxed lately. My new blood pressure medication has got my heart rate down to about 37 or 38 beats a minute. Wow, now that's relaxed. :? :?

I too love the smell of aging cigars. I just cannot keep enough around to age. I have to go to a good cigar store to enjoy that smell.
If my BP got that low I would pass out!
Good coffee is well, good, but the caffeine jacks me up. That I like but there is no relaxing there. I ain't gonna drink decaf.
I have a confession, once or twice a year, I get in the whirlpool with bubbles while smoking a good cigar, listing to AC/DC or CCR, good smelling candles burning and some good JD.
No, my wife is not named bubbles. I mean bath bubbles, she is...... I mean just regular bubbles from Wal Mart, yea, that is what I meant.

Volshooter, since I was diagnosed with hypertension a few weeks ago (around 190/110) I have been put on 3 strengths of medicine which has brought it down to 175. Doc. said no caffeine so we switched to decaf. tea. I don't drink sodas or anything else but water. Iced tea by the gallon though. Well I shouldn't say "anything" else, there are adult beverages.

Careful with that heartrate Jimbo, mine got to hanging out in the thirties back in June and by the end of August after 4 ambulance rides, I got a knew electronic ignition. At least they told me it was knew, I didn't see another body in the O R that they were taking it out of.

Relaxation? What's that? What puts my body, mind and soul at peace is a good long ride on horseback. Preferably with hubby and/or the kids with me. The rocking motion, the sound of the wind through the grass and the smell of growing things would remind even the lowest among us the world is a good place and we are part of it.

Jimbo, see the doctor about that heart rate. If meds are causing it you have the wrong script. If you find yourself craving salty foods get to the ER pala loa!

I didn't mean to alarm anyone but the new meds the doc put me on did bring my heart rate and blood pressure down way too much. Seems when it comes to regulating that heart rate stuff some of it is trial and error. All this because I am newly diagnosed with a-fib, a rather benign condition that I have been living with for some time. ...and yes I have talked with the doc and stopped one of the meds. :D
