This may have been posted before, BUT it IS well worth while to watch again and again:

THIS OUGHT TO RUN A CHILL DOWN YOUR SPINE. HAVE YOUR SOUND ON.

A kamikaze attack in 1945

There have been many stories of the attack on the USS Laffey But, this is the first one I've seen where they had actual film

Footage. They endured an 80-minute attack, shot down 11 planes, were hit by 6 Kamikazes and 4 bombs on 16 April 1945 off of Okinawa.

The ship gained the reputation as "The Ship That Wouldn't Die."

WWII in the Pacific.

A kamikaze attack in 1945… This clip gives you a feel for what it was like in the gun turret.

This is only part of the price of freedom...

An interesting sideline to the Laffey was this one with it being named after a ship sunk on November 13, 1942 with the ship receiving a Presidential Unit Citation:

For those who don't know, she is on display at Patriots Point in South Carolina. I took the tour of her and it is well worth the time. :!:

There is some fantastic info on DD-724 on Wikipedia. Blow by blow including the Corsairs and Hellcats that were also fighting the Kamikazes. Another interesting fact.... DD-724 also took part in D-Day

People ask why I volunteer at the Soldiers Home. This video explains why I feel they deserve the caring far more than I can. If any can say the people that put themselves into these places and do what they do aren't owed the very best care they have something serious wrong with them.

Pete: Wow, I can't believe you said that. America still knows how to fight, at least the soldiers, sailors, Marines, and airmen do.

Thanks for posting this Pamela, I have read a lot about the USS Laffey and she and her crew did what they were designed to do. The Laffey prevented those same kazis from getting to the capital ships.

Or the hospital ships. That Red Cross must have made an excellent target.
