I picked up a nice .243 RS flat bolt a few months ago. I finally got around to scoping it and shooting it this weekend. After a couple of shots to confirm the bore sighting I backed up to 100 yards. The first 3-shot group was an honest to goodness 0.25". I couldn't believe it. I pulled the target off and saved it.

I was unable to duplicate this, but it certainly shoots very well. Just another 'inaccurate' tang safety M77...

south_ridge sounds like a great shooting rifle! I once fired a 3 shot group with my old tang safety 77-R .270 Winchester into 9/16 of an inch. Like you I've never duplicated it, but I know it can do it. I've owned that rifle since 1982: and wouldn't dream of parting with it.
Good shooting to you,

Wish there were flat bolt rifles around here as I would love to own one.

Seems like you have a shooter there!

I was browsing through the latest Bass Pro sales paper yesterday, when I saw on page 9, featuring youth hunting clothing, a close-up photo of a young hunter shouldering a pristine looking M77 flatbolt! I thought my eyes were deceiving me.
