That is a great story. My story goes on to show the same type of man Mr. Weatherby was as a company owner. This was around 1979.
I sold guns including many Weatherby's mainly the mark Vs.
I sold a 12ga Weatherby pump to a young man(actually his father). I think he was around 17, who saved and bought it as his 1st gun. I cannot remember what that model was, it was not made or designed by Weatherby it may have been a Nikko or SKB, that I cannot remember either. It did come from Japan. It had the fit and finish of the mark Vs and cost more than any other pump shotguns we sold for hunting.
The father and son came back in several weeks later, both mad the shotgun had broke. It was with the action is all I remember and they were really upset and said so after buying a Weatherby and it broke the 1st day at the range.
It came back repaired with a letter from Mr. Weatherby and he apologized for the problem and related to a story about buying a new lincoln and the transmission failed the 1st few miles. Saying both are great products, but sometimes a few will have problems. It was typed and hand signed by Mr. Roy Weatherby.
I wanted a LH mark V in .300 WM for years, but just never got one, I do have 2 Vanguards RH of course.
