Tell me about the #1 Internationals

I kind of took a liking to the #1 a while back and think I would really like an International. What chamberings are these usually found in ? Any years of manufacture preferred ? and where to start looking ? (I have seen a very few # of these for sale over the years.) Pics would be great.

I've seen a lot for sale in 7x57. I've got one in 30-06. It's a later black recoil pad made in 1992 if I remember.

I just sold the one I had in 7x57. I have an older red pad in 30-06, and picked up one of the new 257 Roberts offerings this Summer. I have been disappointed in the wood they have been using on the latest No 1's. I have yet to see any that have any character at all. Probably just trying to keep the prices down.

Both of the #1-RSI's I had ( a 7x57 & a .30-06) were great-handling rifles, but the 7x57 I had didn't have any kind of accuracy with the heavy 175gr boolits I wanted to use in it.

OTOH, the .30-06 #1-RSI usually could put 3 shot under an inch @ 100yds if I did my part.

They're very nice. This year Ruger did one in 257 Roberts.

If only for completeness, the RSI has been offered in 243, 308 and 300 RCM in addition to the above calibers.

From what I've read the 243 is the most uncommon but the 300 RCM is probably less common due to it's short production run. I think there is more demand for the 243 while the 300 RCM takes on red-headed step-child status amongst RSI owners.

The only thing I dislike about the RSI #1 is that the balance is not as good as the longer barreled #1s. The 1B is perfect for me and the 1V even outstrips the RSI in pointing on target, holding, and tracking.

You're right, I've got my models crossed. The M-77 RSI was offered in 308 but not the #1 RSI.
