Lately, I've been feeling like I'm not keeping up with the times, since I don't have any tacticool stuff. So I looked around at some of my junk and came up with the Tacticool Winchester 9422M Assault Lever Gun. Note the camo sling, the wrapped lever, and the Buck 110 bayonet. Now I'm Tacticool, and no longer a Neanderthal outcast!

Really? I guess my LGS didn't get that memo   .

Well, I got my French MAS 1936; Nice light weight with a built in bayonet and quite easy to throw down when you want to surrender
If'n, I'm wanting to fight, I got my British 303 Enfield Mark 4 (THREE OF them) that has a surprising rate of fire for a bolt action rifle with a 10 round magazine. I also got a load of Surplus ammunition already installed in five round stripper clips.

Elsewhere, I've seen quite long in depth threads on tactical lever guns. They don't raise eyebrows as fast or far as black guns or AK's.

Yep. The "sleepers" of assault rifles. Kinda like a beater 56 chevy with a 409 and 4 on the floor in it.

Ever seen this video?

A folding bayonet as well as a wrapped lever? Way too cool!

As a fellow neanderthal outcast, I am impressed! You've raised the bar for the rest of us not enamored with those funny but functional black rifles. Perhaps someday I might be able to measure up.....

Do BB guns count?

Of course. Ask any squirrel.

Years ago my Grandfather got in trouble with the borough that grew up around the house he built my Grandma back in 1934, for thinning out the squirrel population invading his garden with .22 shorts. I wouldn't have cared to have been the rookie cop on that call!

So he switched to a pellet gun. And they still 'fussed'! Some do-gooder, 'new' to neighborhood yuppie must have caught him in the act and turned him in as a 'public service'.....

Where is the dang LASER and RED DOT sight? How are you going to aim that thing without a LASER and a RED DOT sight? :D

Since I'm not doing anything except smoking some cornish hens today, and trying to eat all the Christmas goodies my wife has laid out, here's some info on this model :): 20.5"barrel, 1:16 twist.

Also, there's a lot of folks out there who have become enamored of Ballistic Coefficient in choosing their ammo, but often misunderstand the entire concept. I've had discussions with a few new shooters who think a lower BC number is "better" than a higher number, and therefore will have longer range, or carry more energy than a competing bullet with a higher BC number at the same range; and hence be more effective in terms of terminal ballistics. So here's some info to discuss at your local watering hole if the topic comes up:

Question: Which of these 2 Hornady .22wmr rounds would you think is "better" in terms of trajectory and terminal performance?

22 WMR 30 gr V-MAX or the 22 WMR 45 gr FTX® Critical Defense

The Ballistic Coefficient http://www.hornady.com/ballistics-resource/external

Before discussing this topic in more detail, let's dispel some myths surrounding it. Whatever you may have heard before, these are the facts:

* There is no such thing as an absolute and invariable ballistic coefficient (B. C.)
*Ballistic coefficients are only one factor in bullet selection for different kinds of shooting.
*A ballistic coefficient can change with reference to (1) altitude, (2) temperature, (3) atmospheric pressure, and (4) relative humidity.
*Ballistic coefficients are measures of a bullet's relative efficiency.
*Ballistic coefficients are not measures of a bullet's "goodness."
*Higher B.C.s do not necessarily make a bullet "better."
* Lower B.C.s do not necessarily make a bullet "worse."

A bullet with a flat point will deliver shock value at short range that a pointed bullet will never achieve. But that is terminal ballistics and a different subject I guess? :?

Nope, not a different subject. Ballistics is composed of 3 interconnected phases: Internal, External, and Terminal. What happens before the bullet leaves the muzzle (including the shooter and the rifle & cartridge/bullet manufacturing, etc. ) affects how it performs in flight given the existing environmental conditions at the moment of the shot, which affects how it performs on the target, which in turn is affected by the target itself.

Btw, that's a false assumption re: shock value, since that depends on the target. Body armor(natural or artificial) will dissipate shock value of a flat or hp bullet, whereas a pointy bullet (think armor piercing military ammo) is more likely to penetrate. There's more to this than you think. :)

Well, this thread has reminded me to finish shopping for a receiver sight for the M1894 and get moving on that. Looking for an aperture type sight for some more eye relief, just don't like the thought of a scope on a lever or SA.. Am off to Wild West to google. Back to the subject though. The tacticool lever gun, that morphed into ballistics. A line from a song comes to mind..."They've blinded me with science !"

Yeah, Sorry about that. Blame it on holiday cheer.

Hey it's YOUR thread, bunny trail at will Gunny.

Btw: I put a Williams aperture and a fiberoptic front on my Win a few years ago. I like it, but had to remove the original front sight hood. The Williams aperture doesn't have click adjustment for elevation on the one I bought, so it's kind of a pain to adjust. They have others for mo money.
