Last night I was looking at some local ads and saw an ad for an SP101 package that included a bunch of extra goodies for an attractive price. The date of the ad was Oct/2010. A person posted a response on the ad wanting to know if the SP was still for sale. If so, he wanted to know if the party would be interested in a trade for an 'ANIB' S&W 624 Target, 44 spcl as part trade for the SP and would also kick in some cash. He went on to say that he would be willing to sell the Smith for $400 cash.

Well, didn't take me long to send the guy a PM with an offer to buy the 624 for cash if the deal fell through.

I have been fighting sore wrists and couldn't shoot the 44 Mag much without pain, so have been looking around for 44spcl guns. By noon today the Smith was mine. Needless to say, I am very happy! :D Unlike some other great finds lately, this one is staying with me. :D

Turn yourself in, you stole that gorgeous .44 Special! In case you didn't know, the red stamped circle C means that it was returned to the factory and its cylinder was checked and passed the recall. There was a possibility that some of the 624 cylinders were made from a bad batch of stainless steel. S&W recalled them and stamped the boxes with a red circle C when they passed. I don't know that they ever found any that didn't pass, but they checked them anyway.

I've thought about getting a 6 1/2" barrel 624 to match my 4" but they're too expensive. If I had found yours, I'd have snatched it up in a second at that price. Congrats!

Here's mine:

It's the gun Skeeter Skelton convinced S&W to build. He said the only way to improve the Model 24 was to make it in stainless steel.

Are you sure the serial number is still on the gun? Great buy. Never saw a need for a 44 SPL but if presented with that deal......I'd NEED!!!
