This can be found in the "Encyclopedia of Ruger Semi Automatic Rimfires" by Chad Hiddleson, 1949-1992....0n page 25 is a picture from Mr Findley showing the first bolts ,without a recoil spring support, and being ALL white ( they were NOT blued) ,this was from serial number #0001 until 3281, the bolt then had a spring support from serial number #3261 until #12173, The all blued bolt was used from #12214 till the end of production ......in there around serial number #43181 to #82850 there was the two piece tapered ear bolts made during the Korean war conflict ........yes many were polished in the right front , can be seen through the ejection port, for either cosmetic or maintainance reasons ( rust prevention???) wear even on the front end of the bolt...thanks Chad for this fine book with some great information..........
remember if the gun was ever reblued, many shops simply blued the entire bolt, the good ones "detailed" them and polished the area that showed.. 8)
