I have a Colt "New Service" DA in .38-40 that I got from a dealer in Maine about 2 years ago and won't have a chance to shoot, so am selling.

It is a standard 5 1/2" tapered barrel post-WWI commercial model made in about 1923, so C&R qualified. SN 322XXX. Made at about the height of popularity of the .38-40 as a handgun ctg. before the .38-44 loadings of the .38 Spl. or the .357 were commercialized.

Standard flat cylinder latch, blued lanyard swivel, black checkered hard rubber grips that are very crisp with only one minor chip on the base of one panel. I'd say this has about 80+% factory blue, fading on the back of the grip frame and holster worn at the muzzle, with some blue off the sharp corners of the cylinder and frame and TG for the same reason. All markings sharp and legible--has the correct 1884, 1900, and 1905 patent dates on top of the bbl., NEW SERVICE .38 W.C.F. in small block letters on left side of the bbl., Colt VP proof mark and inspection number 3 on left side of TG, and a clear "Rampant Colt" on the sideplate.

This gun was apparently stored on its right side and there are two small patches of pitting on the right side of the frame and some small pits on the side of the cylinder that was laid down at the same time. It has a shiny bore with clean grooves and lands, and clean chambers with some darkening at the case mouth end areas.

A decent unaltered example for a collection, would make a nice short little friend for your rifle or carbine, or just for a shooter that would serve well as-is or could be customized "guilt free." I also have a new (2 year old ) box of 50 Black Hills "Cowboy" .38-40s that I will sell at my original cost to anyone who buys this revolver.

$450 OBO payable by PMO or personal check (if you give me a couple of days to clear it). Buyer also pays 1/2 of actual shipping to any CONUS 01 or C&R FFL, more to AK or HI. (I'll get shipper to give me actual cost of shipping to your ZIP). I'll need a current, signed C&R or 01 FFL copy with the payment or your dealer can email me one direct (CA common carriers won't ship without this).

I can't post pix here but will email or text a couple to any serious buyer who asks and sends me an email address or cell # by PM here.

An "I'll take it" HERE will reserve you the gun--PMs are great for info, but don't constitute an order.

Thanks for reading!
