In my 2008 Speer catalogue this round partially expands (only 4 petals) in heavy clothing at 1189 fps. .40 expansion and 23 in penetration.

Does this change anyone's mind regarding carrying this round in their SP101's?

I think you would have to look at a series of expansion tests to come to a conclusion about whether or not a bullet/ammo is suitable for self-defense. The Speer .357 125 gr Gold Dot is a well proven bullet/ammo. I carry Federal Hydo-shok ammo in my gun but Speer Gold Dots are high on my list also. :D

I have shot many deer with a 44 mag with a heavier bullet and faster speed and the bullet was recovered in the deer. Real life results and paper results are usually different. 23" of penetration seems a bit much for self defense, so as usual know what lies behind your target. If you are worried about the penetration, change ammo to something less powerful. Just a thought.
