I believe the first year or two the TV show had a UC-78 airplane.

Correct, Sky King first had a T50. The UC78 nomenclature was one of the WW2 designations along with AT-17 and JRC.

Yep, that big wooden wing doesn't care for outdoors storage, and they're an ambitious restoration project. I've only seen a handful of them over the years and only one actually in the air IIRC.
