I would just note that the winning bidder was bid up $800 (effectively doubling the price), by a bidder with no rating.

I might have suspected a shill bidder.

What am I missing here? That is a crazy number for what looks like a regular flat gate single six and non catalog box.

Your not missing anything. You didn't buy it for that price. I am not knowledgeable on this but after reading comments it appears to be that way.

Auctions used to be a source of great entertainment for me....... (cars and guns)........ It got so silly that it no longer was fun to watch people show how undisciplined they could be with a fist full of dollars. But, that should be nothing new to observers of human behavior over the centuries... o_O
