Unless there is something misrepresented, Amazon has a screaming deal
on AR500 targets. Do a search for

I've got two sets coming in and I'll add to this thread if they are not as
represented. - - - FIVE, 3/8ths inch thick AR500 Steel for $45?!

I agree. But then I read a bit closer.

Where they say (for AR550)

Here is a good guideline. At 150 yards and further, using ammo without
a “penetrator core” or “bi-metal core” (standard FMJ’s are fine) should
be fine for rounds that are traveling less than 3000fps and weigh less
than 185gr.

Which brings up my concern. Specifically, what distance and what load?
When a reviewer says:

My .308 blew multiple holes straight through the targets at 100 yards
but they are great for my 9mm

Presuming that some of the reviews are correct and it is AR400 and not
500, then most of that seems to fall in place.

Sounds like it is . . not . . AR500. :shock:
I'll see if I can get them tested. Not at least 500? Goes back. :wink:

Went looking even further. Clear at the bottom of the Amazon page it says
"Recommended for pistol use only"
Sigh.
I'll bet that is NOT AR500. :evil:

It says 20 pounds for the weight. I bet that is for all 5 of them. Shouldn't they weigh more?

I ordered some the day Pat posted - prior to reading the reviews. (dummy) That's said, they will be for handguns so I'm not real worried. They came right on time - PACKAGED SO POORLY I THOUGHT A COUPLE ESCAPED -- but they didn't. (probably explains the "missing" plates noted in reviews.) They won't get hung for a while so I can't comment on how they take 44 mag hits.

Weight should be close. Quick figuring, the steel for all 5 would weigh 18.5 lb.

While we're talking steel I'm from the days when T-1 was the hot ticket. What's the difference?

I shot mine last week and it's definitely not as hard as my other (older) AR500 3/8" plates I've been shooting for 3 years. I shot small 3" and 4" plates with 556 Federal 55gr FMJ from 50 yards with my rifle and it definitely left some dimples on the plate that were deeper than my old plates. I think they will be okay shooting from 100+ yards.
