Scored a half-lug blue GP-100 .357 6" today. Haven't seen one for a while and just decided I better get it while I could. Has a little blue off the sharpest corners of the barrel and the bore needs a scrubbing; it's been carried AND shot, but is in about 95% (conservative) cond. with all the original stuff in place and TIGHT.

We see few of these for sale in Calif now due to our "Safe Gun List" (barf) which makes them hard to sell. I paid $375 plus the mandatory transfer fee of $35. I think that is pretty high, but probably my only chance for a while....

SN is 171-95XXX; anybody got a birthday for that?

I'll let y'all know how it shoots when I get it out of "Gun Jail".

Schultz, thanks for the info!

Dave, I do intend to shoot the rascal (I NEEDED this gun to carry when I'm bird hunting in deer country! Next I NEED a shoulder holster....).

I don't think that is a high price at all for a 95% gun with box, etc. Check them out on the internet and I think you'll find it's right in line and without a "Ca. premium" for a gun that can no longer be imported into Ca. They are no longer in production.
Any S&W 'L' frame holster should fit.

Nice job

Ruger should spin out more of these, and ...more...

Like a SKINNY tube 6-inch GP.

Might make me buy a new Ruger!

Terry, thanks for the tip on "L" frame holsters; I'll look out for one. I generally buy holsters used since I intend to use them hard and don't mind "pre-scratched." (Same goes for guns and cars--my folks are from the Scottish side of Hadrian's Wall.....).

EVR, I agree: a skinny barrel GP would have some appeal, especially a 6" or 5". I prefer the balance of the half-lug 6" over the full-lug. Let's see how I feel about that when I touch off a few deer loads in it, tho. I may go back to my 7 1/2" .357 Bisley.... But I think this half-lug GP will carry a lot easier than the Bisley, and I usually carry a .357 when I'm bird hunting and already packing 6-7# of shotgun (I used to know a guy who hunted with us in the Snake River Breaks and carried a Win Model 12 pump AND a slung Model 70 .30-06 during the overlapping parts of the bird/deer seasons. Oh, to be young....).

Carrying a handgun while bird hunting during the deer season has paid off for me several times in my life (two bucks, one doe, and one 180# piggie, plus a few coyotes). A good .357 is one heck of a lot better deer gun than a slug in a smoothbore birdgun with no sights.....And it gives me a good excuse to practice during the off season.

Mike,
I've had good luck with holsters on e-bay. You do have to watch carefully for condition and "shipping costs." I usually search for "S&W holster" or "holster K" or, in your case, "holster L" - picks up some extra stuff but generally finds what I'm looking for. Most folks know which S&W their holster fits. By the way, the Ruger Six series double actions fit the same holsters as the S&W K frame guns.

thanks, Terry, I'll keep a watch.

I prefer leather flap holsters for this use, but don't need a full flap, just enough to keep the manzanita's "fingers" off the hammer when busting brush for quail.

Mike, I have the same GP and yep, its nice and tight. Youre gonna be happy with the way it shoots if its anything like mine.

And You'll love 180 grain hardcast lead bullets.

I found mine in a pawn shop about 10 years ago for $250 and jumped all over it the moment I saw it.
