I need to order or acquire 30mm rings for a Varmint barreled #1. Scope will be 30mm tube with 50mm objective...question is what height 30mm rings do I need. I appears that this scope will fit without offset rings so something standard is in order. Unless somebody has a set to sell I will likely order from Ruger. Thanks for the assist.

---------------On another note, after talking to a Leupold tech on the phone a moment ago on another scope matter I asked about the differences between 30mm and 1" tubes and his answer was that the main advantage in the larger tube is the gain in the adjustment range for really long range shooting. If that is the case I could find a scope with 1" tube...
Any educated thoughts on the subject?

No experience w/ the 1Vs. If you have the scope you can get the ring dimensions from Ruger and do some measuring and math. All 50mm objectives are not the same outside diameter. Your choices for 30mm rings are med & high, so you don't have the option of lows, not that they would work w/ a 50mm scope anyway. The statement about the gain in adjustment range is true. Most 30mm scopes use the same size elements as 1" tubes so there really isn't any gain in light passage. I don't know what your intentions are. A high quality 40mm objective scope is better than a 50mm w/ cheaper glass and minimizes clearance and cheek weld issues. I am not a target/"long" range shooter. I have exactly one 30mm scope that I share between a 1B in 270Wby and a 375 H&H RSM. It is a straight tube 2.5-10x Nightforce. I have used that scope hunting hogs by moonlight and it performs as well or better than most med quality scopes w/ larger objectives.

This particular line of scopes is not inexpensive(unless compared with Leupold) and only comes in 30mm so I am stuck with getting new rings, and I have found some x-tall SS rings from the Optics Planet. This rig is for daytime varmint hunting, cal 204 Ruger. I have been getting good reports from fellow v-hunters concerning the "Vortex" Viper in 6.5x20, comes with 44mm objective and for 30bucks more 50mm. I am not convinced the 50mm is going to have any advantages...what say ye...thanks

I traded my only 50mm scope away this past summer for an identical one in 40mm. I finally had enough of the inability to get a good cheek weld on the stock.

Even if you did go with a 50mm most still work with med rings. (at least with 1" scope)

I also agree with the others, Unless you buy a true 30mm scope you are better off with a 1" 40mm objective of better quality.
