I don’t think I really need to say anything else. Ouch. I am not winning this battle. Done a bunch of exercises and stretches. Gets a bit better and then gets a bit worse. Really the worst I have ever had right now. Leg gave out yesterday and I managed to fall. Looks like it is time for maybe more than physical therapy, I I am sure many of you have dealt with this. I am confident that it will get better but dang this hurts.

I feel for you!

I don't believe I've had the IT band tendinitis, but I have had sciatica back in '10. Talk about being miserable. I remember going to my Dr. and tracing the sciatic nerve from my butt (not spine) down to my foot. IIRC he said that it was not easy to treat. He probably gave me a prednisone pack and some exercises to do. About 2 month from the time I first noticed it until the time it went away was about 2 months.

There's no single way to fix it, and I tried a bunch of different exercises to try to relieve the ache. Something worked, though I don't know what it was.

I guess all the advice I can give is to follow the Dr's. orders and do as many specific exercises you can do and just keep plugging away. Hopefully, like mine, something will work when it didn't seem like it was.

I run distance and still play hockey and have dealt with these issues for years. For me it's always came down to core and glutes, strength
training and stretching. Late summer if I'm doing high mileage ( for me ) above 55-60 per week I'll add in foam rolling the IT band
after workouts. It's always my left side that bugs me. I've used the same physical therapist for years, will see her for a few months
maybe 2-3 times a week during peak training loads. Combination usually of ultrasound and deep tissue massage and she'll sometimes
try some new toy or technique. The trick is to not wait till it's totally screwed up to start dealing with it, the more pissed off you
make it the longer it'll take to get better.
If you're overweight or seriously out of shape it's going to take a while to resolve.......and advancing age doesn't help !
I'm mid 60s and it's tougher sometimes to stay motivated.
Another trick is finding a good PT, lots of them just sorta go through the motions. Sometimes you need to try several till you
come across one with the magic combo of experience, talent. and motivation.

PT must become your new religion. Take care in finding the right preacher! I used the lab/gym of the local state university's Kinesiology Department, where students that are doing the practicum part of their training work under the supervision of a very experienced sports medicine doc. My medical insurance pays for this, at least for now....

If you have a local school with this kind of program, it might be worth a call to the department.

Sciatica scucks, for sure. Hope you find a program or person that relieves yours!

Had issues with IT when hiking. At times it'd be bad enough to cause tears. It hurt! I didn't want all the therepy garbage and be strung along so I tried the bands. I used them initailly each hike right from the start. We'd do 2 mountain hikes each week (usually 7-12 miles) for 3 months and by the end, I wasn't needing them at all.

Well, I have had minor flare ups in the past on my left side, usually just causing a mild ache in my hip and groin. Not comfortable but not really debilitating. More of an annoyance. A good physical therapist with a specialty in nerve issues made a world of difference. This is ten years later and on the other side. I am hopeful that this too will be fixable. I will admit that it is far worse this time, aching for months with marginal benefit from my home exercises. My core muscles are definitely weaker than even a couple of years ago, so I know that will be some of the issues. I will have a follow up with the orthopedic clinic next week. Right now lots of icing, rest, and anti-inflammatory meds. Hated to get a walker, but I really couldn’t stand on both legs. The slightest jar to my foot or leg is quite painful, radiating up to my hip.
I’m sure that It will all be remedied, but with a lot of work. I always enjoyed physical activities and jobs, but your body keeps count of the wear and tear. Thanks for the encouragement everyone.

I had terrible pain in 2015. 2016. The worst in my life. I saw flashes of light when pain hit. Back surgery took care of it. Laminectomy. Lumbars 3,4,&5. I spent a year in a wheelchair. I’m good now. Kind of.
