SOLD Scarce Marlin in 30-30

Since the thread about Marlin 336's, I've

View attachment 59943 decided to let go of my seldom seen 336A,made in 1976. Sometimes called the "sporter" it has a 24" barrel. Of course it's a"JM",and no safety. This one is unmolested

and is in superb condition . $900 shipped, front sight hood and scope/Burris mount included.

You're tempting me. I always had a notion of getting one of those long barreled .30-30s, rechambering it to .30-30 Ackley Improved, and seeing just what could be done with it. On the other hand, I'd hate to modify a fairly scarce rifle.
I had an early 50s version (long barrel, half magazine) with the deluxe checkered stock in .35 Remington! What would that one be worth today?

It will go well with my other three JM Marlins - a 39A Century, a 1971 SRC .44, and an 1894 in .218 Bee.

My 336A was made 1949. Got deal on it because someone drill and tap it in there garage. Since I bot it to use, that didn't bother me. My local gunsmith got a scope mount on it properly. I have had it in the woods once or twice. But have not shot anything with it, yet.

I have a 36 that looks just like that.

Not drilled and tapped for a scope mount but it’s drilled and
tapped for receiver peep or tang peep sight.

Jn41 and Guv - sounds like you probably have what the Marlin guys call "waffletops" has the wavy lines on the receiver top?

Not mine, it as a script "Marlin Safety" on top of the smooth receiver. This is in reference to the safety that requires the lever to be completely closed. "Waffletops" we're late 50's I believe they also were not drilled and tapped for scope base.
My 36 has a square bolt and was made 47.

Waffle Tops were made from the first year of the 336 (1948) until 1951. Here's my 1951 336RC in .30-30 WIN.
