as to any other of these 'short barreled SC that fall out of the 'noted' serial number range........they are listed by JD in the 508,xxx and 509,xxx range..........

this one came to us at this weekends Maumee Valley gun show and traded towards an Anniversary 357 flattop we were selling for a friend,,,,,,,,,
Also took these on trade, mint shape KRH-35 and a boxed, MINT shape 'alphabet BC-4 in the Q9xx range....

got spend some time Saturday with our friends from over in Bowling Green..............
as for the SC-4 any of you come across any 'others' out of the range, and that may letter?? I know of some who are waiting for a LONG time to get any "letter" back from Ruger ,so I am not going to bother, will take it to the OGCA coming up...................

Dan,

Nice trio!

Only the 503xxx SC4 and the 2ea in 60-xxxxx, which you know. You taking it to OGCA for research or sale?

SATCOM

Thanks, well they 'were' going to OGCA for sale or trade, which is how I got these, swapped an A alphabet BC-4 and some 'boot' for the 357 Redhawk and swapped the SC-4 on the 50th anniversary 357 flattop, and the boxed "Q" Bearcat on a swap for an SP101 3 inch, need a 'program' to tell the players..........
yes, the swap for the SC-4 was NOT figured in as a "lettered" or known ( published) numbers for the SC-4s and they go for some 'stupid' prices.............heck we sold off the short barreled 200th year stainless SC-4 ( or was that a KNR-4??) for WAY under "book"...never can remember those catalog numbers/letters,,,,save that for the books!! my head is already filled up with ALL kinds of useless information/data 8)
Anyway, the SC-4, as well as the Q numbered Bearcat are spoken for and will not be making the trip this time, nice to see some people do pay attention, better than I do !!

Dan! Can you get us a picture of the front of the barrel on the SC-4? I would like to see the cut off marks on your gun to see if it looked like the one that I had! Thanks!

the difference being the first is a machined "made" barrel, number 2 is obviously "cut" down from a different length,"after the fact",,,,,,so based on that ,what was the "premise" or why and how' the 508,xxx, and 509,xxx guns came about????built from scratch or cut down???? Look at the "finished" end of any other OM 22 cal. Ruger for comparison. If we cut a barrel down like that of #2, for a "finished" gun, I would give the customer his money back 8)

Well that "chopped off" look is what makes them bring the BIG money :!: :!: :!:

You know collectors are suckers for the odd ball stuff    RR.

again, only Ruger collectors pay "stupid" money for the things that are "seconds" or screw ups, the plums colors, streaks in the castings, mistakes in cutting a barrel "to length", etc.............ah yes
Bubba , with his hack saw would be proud of a job like that.... :(

Wasn't BUBBA Bill's first cousin by marriage

I hear that's the only way he kept his job....especially after the 6 1/2 inch SUPER FIASCO    RR

well we ALL know ,the old man was known to throw NOTHING away, and yes, even bought 'scrap' barrels from High Standard to cut off and use on his guns, same went for the early magazines, they too were "cut down" from SOMETHING else.....that cut looks like a simple 'band saw', hack saw would be a bit smoother...we've seen LOTS of "bubbas' handy work at any given show , on any given weekend, AH yes, American pride in workmanship :(

( can see why there is NO
'QC' at Ruger ,first time around, always time enough to send it back and get it done over or 'recalled')

Street,
Is this what yours looked like?
Terry

That is exactly what it looks like and the Ruger Collectors Assoc. did an article on those guns back in the eighties, and the picture you show looks correct for a factory cut off, from a 5 1/2 in or 6 1/2 in. barrel.

Bill probably gave the customers a discount on those SC-4s because they were missing some of the barrel!!!

the right job, most likely was rebarreled at a later date with a a short barrel that was machined properly,NOT a "hack" job.
If it didn't take so DAMN long to get a "letter" or a simple answer to a question, (NO need for any letter), one could find out just what that serial numbered gun shipped as......the new owner can take the time to do that after he gets done shooting it  8)

My congratulations to the new owner. That's a neat piece, even if it's provenance is uncertain.

I was hoping to get to fondle that one at OGCA this weekend, but when ya snooze, ya lose.

;)
