Irena Sendler was another. A young Polish social worker, she was ultimately responsible for saving the lives of about 2500 Jewish children. The Nazis broke her legs and feet, and tried to execute her, but she kept on keeping on....
In 2007 she was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. It went to Al Gore for a slideshow on global warming.
