rusty LCP

I've been happily carrying my LCP in a LH hip pocket holster I made myself. No problems.
With summer coming on, I've started wearting shorts---and sweating. The holster doesn't fit the hip pocket in any of my shorts, so I switched to a synthetic leather IWB holster. When I got it out at the range for a little practice, there was red rust on the right side of the magazine release, and the beginnings of rust on the right side of the frame, especially at the back. It cleaned up with 0000 steel wool, and I put a coat of Johnson's wax on it.Elsie now rides in a front pocket.
I should have anticipated this; I seem to have particularly corrosive sweat. Neither leather nor metal watchbands last a year. I suppose I need an IWB holster with a shield between me and my pistol.

toysoldier, this is one big reason why I haven't checked out an LCP yet. Like you, I seem to have particularly corrosive sweat and I HATE to think what would happen to ANY blued gun if I tried carrying it on a regular basis! If Ruger would come out with a stainless LCP, I'd probably sell something to go buy one. I own some blued guns for collector or sentimental reasons, but I NEVER carry them- Tenifer and/or stainless only for carry for me!

Not stainless, but I ended up with this one out of concern for that very thing:

Wouldn't help with the mag catch, though. The wax might help. What's your gun oil or CLP?

My blued guns will never ever rust.
The reason is I am too paranoid. If I get one, it's normally
sent away for nickel plating or chrome plating immediately.
I owned several LCP's, got them all chromed.
I now carry two nickel p3at's.
unless it's a collector gun, I will keep those blue, but they will be waxed or Eezoxed way too much.
I wouldn't be able to sleep with a blued gun sitting in a holster unprotected.

I'm not sure that even stainless would help. I've seen some badly corroded surgical instruments, and they are much more rust-resistant than a pistol slide. I just need to pay more attention, and clean and re-coat it frequently.

Check out the CCR coatings ... they're good stuff ... and very inexpensive.
