Looking for corrosion? Many folks say Pachy's cause rust. I've never seen it but probably depends how gun was used, maintained, stored.

That thing looks like it had a rough tour of duty or two........but probably still puts the bullet on the mark.

gun is in perfect shape no rust at all. have had it a while but it been in good care all those times..

Thank you but please recheck the serial number. A 162- prefix Security Six would have been produced in 1987 or 1988 and the the right rear side of the frame would be scalloped. It would also have had a red ramp insert on the front sight. The one you show is rounded and does not have the red ramp.

...and it's far from perfect. I'd ask for pics of the forcing cone, crown, cylinder face, crane (exposed), etc....but it would only be for others. Would love to throw a offer and give it some TLC but....recently I have nicknamed my Wife "low baller negator"....

i am absolutely certain that's the serial number.. but would check just to be sure.

Sorry to say but the pictures you showed in your original post do not depict a Security Six with a 162-xxxxx serial number. Could you remove the grips and take a phote to show us the serial number on the bottom of the grip frame?

there are a thousand reasons why posting a gun's serial number is a bad idea.. we can look for any other way to make this happen, but no way in hell am i posting my guns serial number online have never done it before and i never would.

Just cover the last 2 digits if it's concerning

It’s only the first 3 we question. The prefix.
If that guns stamped 162- it’s an oddity or rarity or factory mistake or been altered.

I understand your concerns but you can cover the last 3 digits if you want to. Take a look through this forum and other gun forums and see how many firearms people have posted with both full and partially redacted s/n's. Then ask them if anything bad or out of the ordinary has happened to them.

As hittman stated, if the gun has a Ruger roll marked serial number starting with 162-then this gun would be very out of the ordinary. Ruger changed over to the scalloped right side of the recoil shield around s/n 158-14100 so a gun with a 162- prefix with a rounded right side of the recoil shield would be very rare.

I bought a stainless steel 6” Security Six on my 21st birthday. 1982. At a Gibson’s hardware store in Stillwater, OK.

My serial number is 159-229xx.

I just wanted to see what horrible thing would happen to me…

Per RENE the highest known without scalloped recoil shield is in the 158-xxxxx range, made in 1982.
Curious confusion indeed.

Sure like to see a photo of that s/n. And too bad the letter program stopped!

Just an interested by-stander in this discussion, but........ looking at the pictures of this gun, the nicks and scratches, prominent roll mark on the cylinder, muzzle wear, and the owner says "gun is in perfect shape"? Not exactly something I would ever call "perfect". But maybe that's just me.

Post #5 is where he stated "perfect shape". It is pretty rough, but as I stated above it probably still shoots well. Hard to determine by pics and not hands on examination.
