How many different calibers has Ruger offered in the RL (ultralight series) ? I have one in 308 that I've had since the early 90's and it shoots sub MOA groups at a hundred yards. It's my favorite rifle out of more than 12 different hunting rifles. I know they made or have made the rifle in 308, 243, 257 Roberts, 30-06 & 270. Any others that I'm not aware of ? What caliber would be the most rare in the RL series of rifles ?

The .250 Savage is the most sought after caliber. They also made them in .223 & .22-250 and a limited special run version called the whitetail classic in 7mm-08.

Wasn't the 7-08 Whitetail the run in a matte stainless? All others are blued aren't they?

A check on Gunbroker revealed a: RARE Ruger M77 RL [Ultra Light] 22-250 Tang Safety Pre Warning 20" Barrel Black Forearm Tip Weighs 6 Lbs, a RUGER 77 RL BROWN LAMINATED 270 WIN #771-698XX, EXC BORE, 20" BBL, WITH RINGS, TOP TANG SAFETY, SOLID BLACK PAD, EBONY FOREND TIP, 98% ORIG FINISH, LIMITED PRODUCTION and lastly a Ruger m 77 mk II stainless ultra light. syn. stock, cal. 7 mm - 08 . " D " prefix serial # .20 " bbl. new in box. cat. # K M 77 rlfp mk 2. model 17809.

I couldn't find the Whitetail Classic with laminate stock in stainless or one in 250 Savage. What makes the 250 Savage the most sought after of these rifles ? I'm assuming it would be the low production numbers ?

They made a brown laminated, blue barrel model,in 7mm-08.These were a limited run in the late 80's.I believe the blued, walnut model was made in 7mm-08 also.

I saw one about 4 years ago in 35 whelen blued with wood an old timer had it and told me it was built for a ruger employee who lived next door to him I never called ruger to check on it and have been kicking myself ever since

Details at http://taloinc.com/strum_ruger.htm scroll down the page a bit, says some ended up at CDNN, which I'd wished I had known about.

tang safey rls were made in 223 22250 243 250 257 270 308 and 06. Dont know about the specail runs or mark IIs or hawkeyes. only ones ive owned have been two 250s and foolishly got talked out of both.

Lloyd, Lloyd , Lloyd...................................;-(

I have a 257 R but bought my son, now 33, a 250 Savage RL when he turned 12 and started deer hunting. He is surprisingly good with it and the
little bugger shoots!!!

I always thought I might pick up a 22-250, but not at my age now. ;-)

To my way of thinking the 250 is the best of the bunch/offered chamberings.

I have one in .243 caliber. Its my favorite rifle. At my age now, I don't think I'll be needing my .270 (77R) anymore. The .270 has always been my favorite caliber.

A 250 Savage (or a 260 Rem) would be nice in 77 RL.

Here is mine in 243 at least I think that this is the right one will have to check the box. It is my go to gun for deer hunting take it every year and have taken a few nice ones with it.

I know I know. Id pick up another in a heartbeat if a good deal came alone. There sweet little rifles. Both of mine were excellent shooters, much better then the two rl 257 roberts ive owned. I wouldnt give you a plugged nickle for another one of those.

I have one of those target grey 7mm-08s. Its one of my favorite hunting rifles. The first release did not have the engraved floorplates. Only bad thing about mine is that the only factory ammo it shoots is Hornady Light Mags. Have tried the newer super performance and its a no go. Still have a small supply of Light Mags. After those are gone something will have to change to get it right again. Wish Ruger would offer the same rifle in a few more calibers. I love the Target Grey finish myself.

Have to admit I made a stupid choice of a Remington 673 Guide over a Ruger UL in 30-06, and paid a $100 bill extra for my mistake. If only I'd known what I know now....

I just stumbled across a Ruger M77 250-3000 for a great price. Been told it's an ultra light. What is RS & RSI I keep seeing? What's it mean? I'm not real familiar with this caliber but from the reading I've done it definitely sounds like a keeper. Need to find some ammo to shoot it. How many were made? I dated mine and it's a 1985 I believe.

The bright stainless UL 204 don't look too shabby in wood, either.....

Not much left there to eat. Those rifles are beautiful. Where did you find the stocks?

If you run across a UL 223 you don't want to buy for yourself, let me know. I have been looking for one.
