This may be a stupid question, but here goes: Are Ruger scope rings the same for Mdl. 77 and No.1? In other words could I use a set of rings off a Mdl 77 on a No.1?

Yes, the standard rings built for the Ruger rifles will interchange. There were some options on some rifles that didn't provide the milled in bases on the rifle ("round top" M77 which uses Weaver type bases and rings; No. 1V or No. 3 options which could utilize weaver style bases and rings) but the standard Ruger rings will interchange between rifle types. There are also some differences in the heights of the bases on some rifles which may be a complication as well.

You can go to shopRuger.com, to the scope ring finder section to get an idea of what rings / scope/ rifle combinations will work.

Somewhat correct......But lets revisit the question: A set of Bolt action M77 rings have two distinctly different heights..........The ring set for the Number One rifle is the same height front and rear. Two sets of M77 rings that are the same, can be split into two sets of Number One rings, each set with a different height. 8)

Ruger rings come numbered between 1 thru 6 (I believe) depending on the height---as an example the set that would come with a 77 would be numbered 3 and 4----a Number 1 would require number 4 and 4 rings.

If you wanted to use the rings from a 77 on a Number 1 ---you would have to purchase either a 3 or 4 ring--depending on which height you would want. This is just an example, I'm not sure which specific rings come with either a 77 or #1.

Midway sells single rings and I'm pretty sure Ruger does also.

Go to Shopruger.com and look up the scope ring finder for your specific needs.

Ruger rings are number 3, 4, 5,& 6, with 3 being the lowest and 6 being the highest, A #4 is .125" higher that a 3, a #5 is .125" higher than a #4, and , of course, a #6 is .125" higher than a # 5. The .125 is the difference in height on the M77 between the front and rear receiver. The #1 uses the same height rings as they mount on a 1/4 rib. Use #3's for straight tube or up to 32mm scopes #4's will work with most 40mm objective end scopes, and #5's and 6's with really big objective scopes. Getting the proper eye relief can sometimes be a problem with a #1. Mini's and M77-22's are the same a s a #1. Bob! 8)

No.

To put what Spitz posted another way:

M77 rifles (and the SRH revolvers) use two rings of unequal height (the front ring is shorter than the rear ring for an M77), of whatever overall height (low. medium, tall), material (stainless or blued) & tube size ( 1'', 30mm, etc).

No.1 (and 77/22, 77/357, 77/44, 77/50's) rifles use two rings of equal height.
