Ruger Revolver Boxes

Is there a thread that talks about when various boxes where used for Ruger revolvers? When was the yellow box introduced, when was the red cardboard box used? Things like that.

Did Ruger ship Blackhawks in yellow boxes in 1974? I have a Blackhawk shipped in a red box and have a chance to buy another Blackhawk 3 serial numbers from mine but it's in a yellow box.

The best source for such data would be the Red Eagle News Exchange.

Yellow boxes were introduced with the release of the .357 Mag Blackhawk back in '55. These were the "telescoping" variety, which is vastly different from the yellow New Model boxes introduced in the mid '70's/early 80's, IIRC.

Yes, your observation about similar s/n guns being in different boxes brings up a point. The only way to discern the originality of such changes is to obtain the "Ship Date" of said item.
