I looked through Ruger's online manual and didn't see this referenced, but is it safe to use Ruger only level loads in a New Model Blackhawk .45 Colt?

Even then, I think those loads are pushing the limit and should be approached with caution by an experienced reloader.
Well, the medium frame revolver has a 'flattop' while the large frame has the sight ears. Just know what you have. Simple. If you don't, you probably aren't a reloader anyway. Also the prefix is three digit on the medium frame, two on the large. Again know what you have.... Personally I am happy because I prefer the .45 Colt on the medium frame. With three flattops in .357/9mm, .44 Special, and .45 Colt/.45 ACP, I feel I have my 'perfect' set of 5 1/2" barreled revolvers. And NOTHING else differentiates between these two BLACKHAWK frame sizes ?

This is an article that should be a 'sticky' for the next time this question surfaces. If nothing else, the cylinder measurement tells the story.
