Ruger Mini 14 questions...

A couple of questions:

1. Are the ProMag 10 rd. .223 Mini 14 mags worth buying?

2. What is the best side mount scope mount for the older (181) minis? (or is there one?)

Personaly, I'd stick with Ruger mags.
As far as my experience with ProMags go, I had fair luck with their mags a few years back....but most of them took some tinkering. These days, I wouldn't even bother. There's a reason they are cheap....Just sayin'.

I have bought the Promag and triple K 10 rounders. After I replaced the follower and floor plate (with parts for the Ruger 5 round magazines) the magazines worked very well and would actually hold 10 rounds.

I have no experience with non Ruger magazines, but did mess with mounting a scope on an early Mini. The side mounts I tried were the Chinese things. My experience with two of these was definitely not good. Accuracy with a good scope was less than with the open sights. The system was just too wobbly. I did shoot a friend's gun with what I think was a B Square mount. That one was solid and improved the accuracy, but he told me he couldn't take out the bolt to clean it without taking off the mount. But that mount worked a lot better than mine.
Just my experience with two guns.
