Are Marlins better than Henry??
Now Ruger only has to convince the ammo companies to make some 45-70 and 30-30 ammo. There hasn't been any available in over 2 years from my distributors.
Or 35 either for that matter.
Only 1239? I'm sure if they tried they could have got it up to 1500.

Gotta love that Ruger has resurrected the classic Marlins in their own way. At $1,239, though, who would rather have one of the new ones compared to a 70's or so pre safety original?
I have my grandfathers 336RC .30-.30 made in 53 and a LNIB JM stamped 1894C .357/.38 Spl made in 81. Would love to add one of those to keep them company but at that price, other items on the wish lists with higher priority.

In my experience, yes. More accurate and a more robust mechanism. I stuck a scope on a Marlin Cowboy 45 Colt just to see what it was capable of at 100 yards, and it printed groups of 1 1/2" and 1" with "cowboy" loads and hot jacketed hunting ammo, respectively. I've never seen a Henry shoot that well at much over 25 yards. Marlin 39A 22LR and their 45-70s are renowned for their accuracy, while the Henry rimfires and big bores are adequate, but generally not spectacular. And I've put tens of thousands of rounds through it in hot and heavy competition- including black powder loads- with nary a hiccup or need to clean during the match. Watched several competitors with Big Boys have issues or need to strip down for cleaning halfway through a match while shooting BP.
I've also seen quite a few Henrys go back to the factory for repair, while Marlins (at least the pre-Remington buyout ones) are largely trouble-free.

I am a big Marlin lever fan, but that seems awfully high priced for a lever gun. Hoping they will start making the Model 39 again.
Looks very well made fit & finish wise, but I agree with the high price comments...$1,200 for a 30-30 seems absurd to me. I'm blessed to own several JM stamped pre-safety Marlin leverguns of various chamberings...And most likely won't be owning a Ruglin anytime soon. More power to those who want one though, and I'm sure they'll sell a ton of em.

I'm not gonna confuse over-priced with inflation. Have we looked at the price of a M77 Hawkeye lately?
I will likely end up with one or more new Ruger/Marlins, and in spite of the MSRP, I doubt they'll sell for that once the market is satisfied.

Price is not high compared to everything else you're buying these days. I find it amusing that no matter what caliber Ruger brings a new gun out in, a whole bunch say they want it in another caliber. To me, the 30-30 is the classic lever action deer rifle cartridge and I applaud Ruger for starting with that one.
Love the fact that they are making them again. Gotta be a better job than Remington.
That's not really high compared to used prices. Last month I looked at what could sell a win 94 30-30 made in 1978 for. Oh, about the price of that new Marlin at full retail.

If the dummies would have brought out a 357 and a 336 Texan they would be years behind in filling orders. Ruger does not have planners that are aware of what most gun owners want IMHO. And you can probably forget about a model 39 in 22.
