I have a Ruger frontier m77 ... If I wanted rings for the rear mounts it looks like the front mount is higher then the rear mount. Are these special rings that are needed?

You are correct. Ruger rings are typically sold in "mis-matched" pairs with the rear ring being one number higher than the front. For example my Gunsite Scout came with a #4 front ring and a #5 (taller) rear ring.

When I punch in my rifle in the Ruger web site data base it shows the same size ring for from and rear. That's not correct.

This is a Mkii frontier. The rear and front bases are not the same height.

The rear mounts use the same rings as a M77, #s 3-4, 4-5, 5-6. The front rings for the quarter rib are the same as the No.1, Rings of the same size, 3-3, 4-4, 5-5.....
