What is wyle round it?

Rifle is stainless bolt action...556 ain't gonna hurt this rifle...just woundering about bullet stabilization
What's the twist, and what weight bullets do you want to shoot in it?

1/9 will handle 55 grain bullets just fine, and even a grade or two heavier (I forget the weights at the moment and don't have time to look them up but I'm sure someone will post specifics).

My Savage .223 has a 1:9 twist and works with everything up to and including 69 grain bullets.... best groups are the 60 grain loads.

If your chamber is marked ".223 Rem" or something similar, the leade is not really long enough to shoot the 77 grain and up VLD bullets and maintain standard pressures. Bolt action rifles, though, are generally more than strong enough to handle the increased pressure. Unless you have a 1:7 twist, though, the accuracy with those long, heavy bullets will be disappointing.

Years ago Ruger stated that their 223 rifles were fine to shoot 5.56 rounds in. I haven't heard anything of it from Ruger in years. Has anyone called or emailed Ruger to ask?

Agree that the 1-9 twist should be a good general purpose twist rate.

The difference in 5.56 and .223 is more about the chamber pressure and less about bullet weight. The twist will determine how well a particular bullet is stabilized but the question about 5.56 and .233 often centers around whether the action can handle the slightly higher chamber pressures. The chamber "Leade" is critical in this matter. If it were my rifle, given that it is a Ruger, I would shoot 5.56 in it with no question.

The pressure difference is minimal. 223 @ 50,000 and 5.56 @ 60,000 it was the result of using 2 different measuring. The Wilde chamber was developed to solve perceved problems of firing 223 or 556 in chambers not so marked. Shot both 223 & 556 in my early Mini 14 with no problems.
