I have ended up with a few 77's and since they duplicate I am thinking of thinning the herd. So I am trying to decide which to keep. My questions about the Round top and flat bolts, is how much more value do they command? And are their barrels of greater quality than later models. The flat bolt has a 70 prefix and the round top has a 72 prefix?

Thanks for your input
Jeff

Sure is rare. Does it happen to be an RS?
No, I sure wish it was, I used to like a clean smooth barrel but the RS is becoming a favorite.
I just purchased my first rifle (1991 77R .270) back after letting someone else make memories with it. Then I got this Flat bolt and ST 30/06 in the last 4 weeks ive bought 6 Ruger 77s.

Don't sell the rarest ones, and find less common and better rifles to upgrade your collection. Hang on to the 270 FB. Buy long action flat bolts. IMHO, the only round tops that are really hard to find are the 7x57, 300WM and 338WM. Add any of the PL round tops to that list too. The early 77's sure do shoot good, but not sure if the barrels are better or not.

Agreed, the .257 M77ST is scarce, but you do occasionally see them for sale. Like Chilidog said, M77 LA flatbolts are considerably rarer & hardly ever seen.
