I do not think that is a Jimmy or Blazer in that picture. I can't think of the proper name but on a Jimmy/Blazer the post that supports the cab roof is part of the top. That vehicle has a metal top.
When the 75 step side I described above hit a hundred thousand miles (a lot back then) I traded a re roof to an engine builder I knew for a 350 10 to 1 compression block that he blue printed and balanced. Holly carb, custom cam, headers and some other stuff I know not what of.
It then became a fun truck and a serious gas guzzler. I never beat a vette but I made a few owners sweat bullets before they got off the dime.

Why did they keep him in the same trailer? Why did he have the same father? Why was he always a private investigator? That gold Firebird was as much a part of him as anything else on the show.
So, who's brilliant idea was it to blow it up? At least they could have had him driving a rental car at the time like they did on some of the shows. A very simple solution to a non problem.
On another episode he was being tailed by another car. He finally got sick of it and pulled over on the side of the road. The guy following him pulled over and stopped a ways back from him. Being frustrated with the guy, Rockford slammed his car into reverse and floored the gas. He hit that guy like he was in a destruction derby and then went and pulled the dazed guy out of his car. No one in their right mind who liked his car would do something like that either.
There was never anything about him getting his car repaired in the show either. I guess the back of his car was rigged with armor plating.
Cary, can I make a suggestion and recommend you get a brick wall or start watching soccer? It's stress free it's kinda hard to find nits to pick :wink:

Angel was also my favorite character. In one of the books I read, the producers didn't want him after the pilot. James Garner insisted and the rest is history.

Someone tell me what model of Chevy pickup truck has a one piece cab/bed? :shock: This looks to me like a Blazer with the fiberglass top removed and a tonneau cover snapped on. That's where the gas filler is on a Blazer too. This is a Gen 2 body with round headlights. Can't recall when they went to rectangular headlights.
I was thinking the bed looked a little short in that picture myself and wondered if it was a K5 Blazer or the GMC equivalent. The truck is a GMC. Maybe the Jimmy was it's stunt double for jumping?

Here's the answer. This is the original photo, the previous one was altered to look like a Jimmy for some reason. Notice the distance between the roll bar uprights and the cab.
Still looks altered, looks like a long bed truck now Rockies was a short bed, plus the step is missing from the side of the bed just in front of the wheel well, Rockies truck has them on both sides, also the CB antenna is missing off the top of the cab.

If you search Rockford Files Truck photos you get quite a few and some show the truck with no step on the driver's side and no CB antenna. Minor details nobody noticed.

On the contrary, on a show that involves erratic driving and chase sequences with a few crashes thrown in here and there, I certainly understand that they have to have stunt double cars. With a few minor differences like that, most people are not going to blow a gasket.
That certainly can't compare with totally blowing up his car and having him driving it in the next episode.

I liked the Rockford Files show but was and am not a fanatic so can someone tell us if each episode is a separate story or do they all tell a long, continuous story with each related to the one before and after? If they aren't related to each other then no explanation is necessary, it never happened.
Or maybe Jim just went out and bought a new gold Firebird and didn't feel like explaining his lame taste in color. :shock: :wink:

ArmedinAZ, every episode was separate unless there was a Part 2. It wasn't like "Dallas".

Unlike any series in the history of television, The Rockford Files was filmed live. James Garner was really James Rockford. The producers told Rockford that they would be at his trailer at 3am to film "a day in the life" of a PI so to speak. It was usually a Friday. They then showed the episode that night. One time his car got "blowed" up and that was that. Rockford had 6 days to get a new Firebird for next Friday's episode.
Being a real life PI, Rockford had many connections, a main one being the sleeze ball "Angel" Martin. He'd boost a gold FB so Rockford could make his "$200 per day PLUS expenses". It didn't always match but was good enough.
Now you know "The rest of the story". :mrgreen:
