Road trip photo, ca. 1995

This was taken near Tuba City, AZ around 1995 or so...

I actually like that part of the country - been through there more times than I can count, going back at least to 1975. Of course, my wife describes us as "desert rats" (and me specifically as a "peccary head", sometimes when she's pissed off).

As alway FWIW, YMMV, IMHO, etc., etc.

Have flown over that area many years ago ferrying 5 OH-6A from West Jordan UT to Weide AAF on Edgewood Arsenal, MD. Desolation simple doesn't describe it. Nothing for miles in any direction except more nothing.

On our way to the Grand Canyon, in our motorhome, after spending time with friends in Farmington NM and fishing the San Juan River we spent our first night in Bluff UT. After driving through Monument Valley we stayed at the Quality Inn and RV Park in Tuba City, AZ. Just a Great area ;)

Looking for "The Duke" and John Ford.

Stopped near Tuba City once to look at the dinosaur tracks they have there. Don't know if they were real or something the locals made up for the tourists but yeah, a bigger impression for me was the absolute stark treeless land. I thought no wonder the government gave that land to the Navajos. No one else would want it.

I must be lookng at a 'concho' because REAL sheriffs wear their badges on the left side. 😅

The movie "stagecoach" (The real one) was shwoing last night and in the opening scenes it showed the stage coach running past one of the Mittens and I said, to myself, I've been on that road.

When The Searchers was being filmed there was an announcement in the Arizona Republic about the filming--John Wayne was that big of a deal in AZ back then. He used to go bird hunting on my uncle's place, sometimes with Dizzy Dean. Then he bought his own place nearby.
