The 2 bolts holding the recoil pad on are Phillips head? Allen head? They seem frozen and I need to tighten the stock. Not a glamorous question.
Thanks[/b]

I had a very early Red Label, and they were #2 Phillips. Pretty safe to assume they're still the same.

Thanks, a #2 did it. Rusty wood screws. Stock bolt a little rusty and definitely loose. Internal workings of the gun were perfect.

On topic bu....... When I take the butt pad off my #1s I replace the factory carbon steel screws with either stainless steel or solid brass. Squirt them with a little Teflon spray when reinstalling them. That way, even if the stock picks up some moisture from humidity the screws won't rust and will come back out with far less trouble.

If I can find them I replace the #2 Philips with square drive screws.

If I ever have to take of the grip cap, I do the sane thing. Much smaller screw. ;-)

If I sell/trade or give one away I either replace them with Phillips or at least tell you that they are NOW square drive.

The best

Another tip when removing a pad is to lube the holes in the pad so the srewdriver doesnt wear little circles into the rubber...which it will do if done to a dry pad. No biggie but it looks better when re-installed when you cant tell the pad was removed in the first place.

The heads of the screws are actually bigger than the shaft of the screw driver and IF you are going to pull the screws through the pad be sure and lubrricate them or it'll tear small pieces of the rubber and enlarge the holes.

Not critical but unsightley.
