RIA .38 revolver

My favorite pawn shop had a pre-Christmas sale, 25% off everything. In the pistol cabinet was a Rock Island .38, already at a low price. I went home and checked online. Reviews ran about 8 out of 10 favorable, so I went back the next day, looked it over carefully, and paid $179, out the door. I finally got to the range today, and am quite satisfied. It is NOT a beauty queen. The finish is a matt black, the lines a bit clunky. The barrel shroud is a degree off of vertical, but it shoots to point of aim. The wood grips are not well-fitted, and shift slightly under recoil, but I've made grips for several pistols. This one will be easy. Overall, it's a solid, 6-shot, 4" revolver at a great price. It's going to be my wife's "car gun," so she can carry the .38 snubbie that has filled that role in a calf holster I gave her for Christmas. She saw the holster advertised in a magazine, and asked for it. I also bought her a sparkly blue topaz ring at the pawn shop. :wink:

Picked up the 206 spurless snub in near new condition in November for $199. Not the shiniest gem in the drawer but has a solid lockup and a smooth if somewhat stout DA pull. Working in the action for my fiance. I'm sure you'll be happy with the value for the price.

I agree. Maybe even less expensive so IF something happens it's not a huge loss. When I bought my GP100 44 Special, I noticed they had a NIB S&W SD9VE for $250. You don't find descent guns for $250 very often so I couldn't pass it up. I'll have my wife see if she can rack the slide and it works for her may be a good gun for her car. Then I've got to talk her into actually putting it in there. Maybe have to settle on a Ruger SP101 so it can stay in her vehicle with out rusting. She's good about keeping her vehicle locked.

RIA guns can be pretty basic, like that one is, but they seem to solid. I would buy one like that, and be satisfied, at that price; but I would keep in mind that it was probably made in the Philippines. And they don't get things perfect, they get them "well enough."

I picked one up last week. Shoots high left at 25yds for me but I have the technology to fix the front sight. I'm going to shave 1/16" off one side add 1/16" to the other and add a fiber optic tube to the top. I got something for that crap.

Bought one for my wife a few years back. It's now her favorite range gun (she also has a S & W 617, and a Sp101 Match). The RIA now has about 6000 rounds through it, and runs great.

I'm pretty sure 5rnds in my right shoulder would slow me down a bit. I would definitely be reduced to my weak hand for any response.
