What is the best way to keep a revolver in a gun safe, short and or long term?

They don't like to be locked up for long periods. They strongly prefer to be shot at least once a week, and really prefer to keep you company throughout your day.

I always clean them after each use, and store them in a breathable soft case after a wipedown with CLP or something similar.

I served with the 2nd batallion of the 28th in Vietnam when it was part of the Big Red One.

No I was in a Navy fighter squadron, VF-213 Blacklions.
I served in country Vietnam with Helicopter Attack (Light) Squadron Three HA(L)-3, as a door gunner/crew chief.
I also served with VF-151 Vigilantes off the coast of Vietnam.
I have two Super Blackhawks that I don't want to damage through my ignorance on how to keep guns in a safe.

Myself...I give a good cleaning, followed by a wipe-down with a silicone cloth.
Store in a silicone impregnated gun sock (they advertise as suitable and safe for long term storage)
I do not store mine long term in a gun rug case.
I have never had any issues storing this way.

I like to wipe them down with a gun oil rag and then wipe that off with a dry old undershirt. i also have lots of moisture absorb packets in the safe.

I've always kept my handguns in Bore Storesgun sacks in the safe, and have never had any rust problems.
I clean them, wipe them down good with a very light coat of a good clp and slip in the Bore Stores gun sacks. Work great!

I'll sometimes use car wax on the exterior or G96 spray or a dedicated anti-rust from Birchwood Casey. On the innerards I use G96 and then blow out the excess with compressed air.
For the barrel I use a dedicated long term rust protector. Birchwood Casey makes one I use often and is easy to find. But my fav is an LPS product, Number 3 I think. It leaves a waxy finish but we're going for long term storage here so who cares. Obviously, you must clean the barrel before shooting it again.
