Reloading bench

[Big Old Boy]

We moved and are building a new house. I was in Pa. when the movers came and my loving wife forgot to move my bench from the garage, looking for plans and or ideas for a new bench with cabinets that would look good in the garage. If anyone has any thoughts I would appreciate any and all input. I am not a carpenter and would have it professional build it.

A friend has them on his bench and they are great! Just a little too pricy for me.

Whatever design you choose, I suggest you make it bigger (longer) than you think you'll need. Just like tool boxes, tackle boxes and garages, a bench will shrink as you add stuff...

Another suggestion, if possible attach the bench to the wall solidly. Nuttin' is worse than a wobbly bench when you're operating a press. My last bench is 30" wide by 8' long and is part of the wall in my shed (couldn't fit anything longer). The top is two pieces of 3/4" plywood, glued and screwed and the frame is 2x4s, doubled for attaching to the wall in three places with single 2x4s in two places. I can bounce my svelte body up and down on it and it won't even quiver (225 lbs slim).....

When it comes right down to it, I have THREE benches I use for reloading, and that's still not enough. Make it BIG!

I had a Sears workbench until I moved here. It did well for 10 years , my neighbor bought it and still uses it in his garage.

You can get all kinks of pre-built cabinets at the big box stores. Add a sturdy top and you are almost there. A fridge on the side is a nice touch also. :D
