I noticed one other item that's become more important on my own bench: the magnifying glass!

I wonder if whoever it was who said "Getting old ain't for sissies" was a reloader. too?

I believe there's a distant relationship, and tried to figure out what it was when I was a kid. There's a family book that traces our name back to the late 1600s when they arrived here, and I couldn't find him.

Problem was, I wasn't looking under the right name! "Timothy Isaiah Courtright" appears to have been his given name, and I haven't had access to that book for a while to see what I can find there since learning that!

But if you're ever in Ft. Worth, TX, on a Feb. 8, stop by The White Elephant Saloon. I understand they have a big celebration there every year on the anniversary of his death--the story goes he was shot by the saloon's owner, Luke Short, as Bat Masterson watched. Even though Longhaired Jim wore a star, he was as crooked as so many others who did back then! It seems Short wasn't happy about a possible "renewal" of the extortion scheme he'd been the victim of in Dodge City, KS, where he'd built the Longbranch Saloon made famous in the "Gunsmoke" series. Jim was the marshall there, before going to Ft. Worth, but wasn't quite Matt Dillon, from what I've been able to find!

Yup, there was a fellow writing under that name. My infamous "relative" was mixed up w/ the earlier one...

Remember, as w/ most Old West tales, there are elements that remain similar yet become different in each retelling. Some of the details in this story are slightly changed from the account I read from the Univ of Oklahoma's museum and press. I really dunno what the truth was!

Maybe I should hang a copy of Gibson's picture over my bench, eh?
