My recurring dreams include:

Being back in the military, I try to tell them a big mistake has been made but nobody will listen.

Being back in school and cannot find the classroom.

Being back at work even though I have been retired for over 25 years.

Needing my firearm in an emergency and cannot find the correct ammo. (This even though I always keep my home defense firearms loaded.)

And the great one is flying like superman. I have actually experienced this one in real life with about 50 free fall skydives. Relative to other sky divers, you can fly up, down, and side to side. SCUBA diving gives you much the same feeling.

I used to dream of flying....in the dreams it was kind of a hidden talent until I wanted to show it off. Do you have to kick your feet? I don't, just wondering!
I also have similar dreams...it goes back to when I used to work retail, and it was either closing time or before opening and people were sneaking in the store and running around! driving us nuts!!

did you eat cheder cheese that evening?

This cracked me up, I love a dish at a local Mexican restaurant called Enchiladas Suizas, every single time I eat it I have really lucid and weird dreams...but I still get it because it’s sooooo good.

I also have flying dreams. I also dream I go to work and find I am only wearing skivvies or am naked.
I dream I hire on to a company I used to work for but when I get there all the machinery is gone and there is nothing to do. Its so vivid sometimes I almost think it was real.

I have to draw my weapon but when I pull the trigger the bullets just dribble out the barrel.

Now I just dream of going back to work...while awake.

I have all those above from time to time and in addition

I dream that I am in a car and the brakes are very soft don't work,

and the other one is that I am shooting a gun in self defense and when I pull the trigger the thing just will not fire. LOL

It seems every dream I have is at night mostly in a secluded wilderness area or ghost town setting. It has to be because I did 32 of 35 years working graveyard as a security guard prowling around in the dark. I cant recall any that was in a daylight setting.

Not can't find the classroom, but I used to have a frequent one where I realize next week is the final, the drop date is long past, and I haven't done a bit of the reading or been to class in weeks. Every college graduate I've ever asked about it has had this dream at least once, usually more than once.

I've often had one where I'm carrying a gun somewhere you're not supposed to (like in NYC or New Jersey), and I don't have a CCW permit. For some reason the cops seal the place off and start shaking everyone down. I'm trying to find somewhere to ditch the thing, hopefully somewhere I can retrieve it later but that's definitely a secondary concern. I feel like I'm in a bad Harrison Ford or Kevin Costner movie. :x

Not really flying, but I've often dreamed I'm running down the street and discover that if I don't put my feet down, I just stay in the air, floating forward at the same speed. It's kind of like pedaling a bike and then coasting. It feels wonderful! :D

I remember after I got out of the military, I ran into an ole friend from school, home on leave from the SeaBees. He told me with my experience and rank I could sign up with them for a two year hitch and start off as an e-6 and go to a class A school in my field for six months. I talked to the recruiter and he confirmed it. While I was considering it, I had a dream that I had done it and was at my first installation. That feeling of freedom I had as a vet was gone and the way I felt while enlisted was back. I had forgotten that feeling. That loss of freedom. I hated that feeling, having not experienced it since being discharged. I just could not go back. In my dream, that little voice in my head said, You already have an honorable discharge so to heck with this. I went over the hill immediately. That made it even worse. That is when I woke up and realized it was just a dream. I was so relieved, I went straight to the recruiter that morning and told him I was sorry for yanking his chain but I just couldn't do it. He seem to understand. I was so happy that was just a dream.

I dreamt that I was allowed to go out and buy a pepperoni pizza last night..... without my mask and gloves.

I have dreams/nightmares frequently. Sometimes even when I'm not asleep. Reliving certain events at random times makes things difficult. I've had to walk away from conversations many times when words/phrases/topics set me off.

Several times I've dreamed I was a deer running effortlessly across fields and through woods. It's a great feeling, like flying.

Interesting the military is such a common theme of recurring dreams.

For decades I've had military dreams, over and over. Some good and some not so good. I've had hundreds, maybe thousands of nights disrupted by these dreams. Originally my dreams put me back in my era, but later, my dreams put me in the middle-east, where I've never stepped foot.

Some other recurring themes, I brought the wrong ammo, no ammo, or my ammo doesn't work. This dream applies both to both military and hunting scenarios.

I dream of being in public with only my underwear.

I have dreamed of flying, and not with an airplane.

I often dream I'm back at my work, keeping production running. And especially, keeping all the fire sprinkler systems operating. That was a nightmare even when I was doing it for real.

I have fleeting dreams I don't remember in between staring at the ceiling wishing the noise in my head would go away...B-52's leave lasting effects...

Recurring bad dream: I'm in college and discover that I registered for some foreign language class and then forgot to attend. And the final is TODAY!

Recurring good dream: I'm driving in the Palouse Prairie along the WA/ID line (where I worked for almost 10 years in the '70s-'80s), come over a hill and see below me a perfect little town of the 1950s--non-chain hardware store, a Woolworths that still sells guns and ammo and has an overhead pneumatic tube to send paperwork to the office, Sears catalog store, gas stations with attendants, restaurants with nice old waitresses (and bacon with everything), a Studebaker sales room with a pickup on the show floor next to a "Flying Scotsman" coupe, lotsa little frame houses, Carnegie public library, and so on. Just gives me the wonderful feeling of "coming home"!

Had a reoccurring dream when I was a kid that I was going to a friends house several blocks away. I had to ride down a busy street and then cut across traffic to go down a hill into his subdivision. When I made the move and got on the steep hill, I back peddled the bike to let the brakes slow me down and the chain jumped the rear sprocket, The dream was so vivid you could smell the grass and hear the wind whipping past my ears as I gained speed. Now if I made it to the bottom of the hill without being able to slow down I was sure I would die as that was another busy cross street. So this long sloping hill has houses with nice green lawns and drainage ditches on both sides with concrete culverts going under the driveways. I figured it was better to dive off the bike into one of nice soft grassy lawns than try to ride it out, and I was sure I would lose control and crash in the street at the speed I was building on that hill if I didn't do something. So about halfway down, I pulled the bike to the edge of the pavement and bailed off, right into the ditch rolling up to one of those culverts. Just As I hit the ground I saw a huge dog bounding toward me barking furiously. I remember thinking that if I survive the ditching I am going to be attacked by the dog. I hit the culvert and guess I blacked out, only to come to with a large collie straddling me and licking my face. I was seeing the lady of the house running across the yard to check on me when I woke up for real and I swear I had dog slobber on my face.
I dreamed that dream at least once a week for over two years when I was about 9 or 10 and we lived in Waco, TX.
One day it came true, in real life, and though I remember the dream and real life enactment in vivid detail, sight and sound, I never had the dream again.

Phantoms do the same. As I sit here the ringing is deafening. Music drowns it out, but the wife complains it's too loud.

My husband has a recurring dream where there is a monkey living in his head and threatening to turn his brain off. I just tell him too late the monkey already did it!

OFF Subject, BUT I also have the ringing from working on the ramp with B-47s J-47 engines screaming and we didn't have ANY kind of ear protection. At times it would make your head hurt.
Now my question is at times in sounds like people talking or a band playing. Much worse than just the ringing. Do you Guys have this along with the ringing?????????

I did 35 years at Lockheed and around everything they built, P-3, SR-71, TR-2, F-35, F-17 etc when they did engine tests. I occasionally was in deserted big buildings and it sounded like music or a radio left on. I have the ringing and my hearing has progressively got real bad since I retired. I haven't sprung for real hearing aids yet but bought those $50 HD smart Ear amplifiers at Walmart.

Forced to hide in the ceiling and display shelving of a Wal Mart and trying to get a weapon and ammo in the sporting goods department to deal with several gang members who are looking for and trying to kill me.
Have had the same dream at least 3 times, very vivid full color and always wake up in a sweat panic trying to get a Wal Mart employee to unlock the ammo case for me, oh wait, that part about waiting on an employee to unlock the ammo case is real................

Hi,

That's a dream? I thought it was just (fond?) reminiscence... ;)

Worst recurring dreams I had were the last 6 months before retiring, I'd dream they changed the requirements for retirement and I'd have to keep working.
Next worst was dreaming Dolly Parton is my mom, and I was bottlefed!

After my Dad died. He started coming to me in dreams. Real vivid dreams. Always peaceful. He said he was fine and all was good. He looked like he did before he got sick. Nice and fat and smiling. He always left me with the same message. “Keep your family safe”. I said of course I would.

A couple weeks later the same dream. “Keep your family safe”. I said I am dad.

It kept reoccurring until. One time he said “I was wrong you were right keep your family safe. “

It dawned on me he meant that I should carry a gun to protect them. It was an argument we always had. He said it was a bad idea to carry a gun it leads to trouble. I said I could handle it, but he was adamant about it.

So in the dream I told him I carry a gun everyday which I did, and he never came back.
