RE-Finishing the Stainless Slide.......

just wondering, what would one use to re-polish (to remove scratches) the "Flat-sides" on a stainless P90 - and can I get the "P90 DC" re-engraved after?
I don't want it shiny, just smoothed-up, and my first inclination was just nailing some crocus cloth to a board and working the slide up and down it.......

Use a thick piece of plate glass - at least 1/4" or better - and wet sandpaper in a very fine grit and a very light oil - maybe even kerosene or lighter fluid.
