Rams Horn Sumac

Is the absolute best food seasoning. It makes everything better...eggs, fish, venison, potatoes, all are better with it. If you have not tried it you are missing out

Is Rams Horn a brand, or part of the name?

I can find Sumac, but nothing associated with rams horn

When I saw the title I was thinking along the lines of poison ivy / poison sumac

Ram's horn sumac is the roadside bush you see that grows large, dak red seed clusters before the leaves turn a bright red color in fall. Soak those seed clusters in water and they also produce a delicious lemonade-like drink rich in vitamin C.

From what I see Sumac and rams horn are two different plants. But I found a Staghorn Sumac that fits your description to a T.

So @Wvfarrier do you make your own? Or buy it? What brand is best?

Yes stag horn....I have some mental block and always call it Rams horn. My wife thinks its hilarious

Well, I never knew this, but apparently Stag horn sumac is the kind we have around here in Vt. I never knew it could be used as a tea or seasoning. I used to use it to dye my leghold and body gripping traps before waxing. Put your slightly rusty traps in a pot of boiling sumac tea and it turns the traps black.

Now that I know what to look for I see it on the side of the highways. But I don’t plan on harvesting any. Interesting about it turning the traps black.

Same here. But not all of it blooms. Different species. Also avoid the white flowering sumac that is the poison sumac.
