Question about SP101 Finish/Milling

After stripping down my SP101 a few weeks ago I noticed variations in how a few parts were finished/milled. 1) The spur-less hammer was nicely finished and rounded on the left side and the right side was not rounded and had a slightly sharp edge and corner. 2) The frame portion that the spur-less hammer sits in is the same, left side smooth and slightly rounded with the right side edged. 3) There is a little play in the wheel on the crane assembly as I would expect, but the wheel slightly touches the frame when the wheel is open and backward toward the grip. 4) Where the the wheel touches, the frame looks like a little shelf of metal needs to be removed.

Just so nobody thinks i am trying to trash Ruger on my very first post, this is still one of my favorites and I must say the revolver does shoot quite nicely.

I just want to know if this is what others have experienced with their SP101's, am I being to picky, or if it needs to be sent back to be completed. Quite honestly to me it looks unfinished but it is minor enough that I did not notice it until after the third range trip and the first complete strip down. Let me know your thoughts.

Can you post pics of the areas you're concerned about? It might make it easier for someone to assess the issue. Personally, I'm having a tough time getting a mental image of what exactly you're seeing.

I don't have the hammerless sp101 so I can't speak as to the first problem, but my cylinder does touch that area of the frame when the cylinder is out and the gun is pointed upward. The cylinder spins very smoothly when pointed level to the ground or even slightly upward, but when I point it up more than maybe 45 degrees it rubs against the frame. I noticed it the first day I had the gun but never really had an issue with it. It doesn't effect the function of the gun at all so I'm ok with it.

All Ruger revolvers are hand polished so the differences in "rounding" on the hammer and hammer slot in the frame are normal. The corner you refer to as being unfinished is like that for a reason. It prevents the cylinder from sliding off the crane when open. You have a standard production revolver wich looks pretty good to me.

All areas you mentioned are hand polish or hand fit areas and are strictly cosmetic. The step in the frame to keep the cylinder on is hand filed when the gun is assembled. The cylinder is not designed to be spun when open, only loaded and unloaded. You are picking at nits and may consider trading your SP in on a Korth along with about 1500 dollars difference and you will find none of these issues. Rugers are working guns, and not intended to be art work.
