My friend asked me a question reguardind the 9mm Blackhawk cylinder. He asked if he could shoot .380 ammo in it??
I couldn't answer that, so thought I'd ask the pros!

Thanks in advance

I have a Blackhawk convertible and the 380 cartridge does fit in the 9 mm cylinder. The 380 cartridge fits very loosely and looks as if the cartridge goes too far into the cylinder to be hit by the firing pin. The 380 brass is a hair smaller and a lot shorter than the 9 mm brass.

I can't say and don't know if it is safe to shoot just because it fits. I wouldn't do it. I look to an expert for a safe answer.

Sorry.

Dave

Not a good idea even if it functions. Besides the problem noted above on hitting the primer, accuracy will be crap and the loose fit isn't going to do much good with the forcing cone. And why bother? 9mm functions pertfly and it is cheaper to shoot. I don't see the point or the sense of it. Dave

How about the simple answer: Unless you modify the round in some way it WILL NOT WORK as the round is not held anywhere NEAR where the primer can be hit by the firing pin.......................

thanks guys.....he had a large amt. of ,380 ammo and no gun to shoot it in. I told him I didn't think it was a good idea even if it "fit" in the cylinder, but told him I'd chk. with the pros!

As many have stated, it won't work because it is too short. The 9mm fits the cylinder and is stopped from falling through or deeper into the cylinder by the case mouth. The .380 is about the same diameter but considerably shorter and would fall deeper into the cylinder preventing the firing pin from striking it.

Excessive Headspace Bigtime!!!!!! It works on rimmed cartridges like .38 spec/.357 mag but not rimless in the Blackhawk due to headspace method.
