Q about Service Six

I've seen lots of 2 3/4" Six series revolvers, but I just got a 3" Service Six in a trade.
All I can find out is that the 3" was only available on the Service & not on the Speed or Security models.
Does anyone know how many were produced, etc.? Is this fairly common? I have emailed Ruger twice but no response.

Ruger doesn't release production figures.

There were some Speed Six's in 3" made for the postal service too if I remember correctly.

Other members with lots more info than myself will be along directly, I'm sure. And ~ if you "search" this section using the right key word(s) there's other links here with more info.

The 3" barrel appears to have been developed to secure the Post Office contract. After that, it was in the 'parts bin', so to speak, and used / offered on special orders on fixed sight guns.

I have a stainless 3" Speed Six in 38 spl. and a stainless 3" Service Six in 357 mag. The Postal Service guns are stainless 3" Speed Sixs in 357 mag.

I have yet to see a blued 3" barrel on a Six series double action. (They were offered on the fixed sight GP-100s.)

If my memory is correct (?) I read here that late in their production Security Sixes were made with 3 inch barrels.
