Problems with the Ruger LCP

So I was tired of lugging around my Glock in the summertime when I am working on my buildings wearing shorts and a t-shirt. I pop down to my local dealer and ask him for a solution and he says Ruger .38 or the LCP. As soon as I pick up the LCP I just love this weapon. I buy the LCP and some crimson trace and take it down to the range.

I put 100 rounds of independence through it with no issue. Next time I take it to the range I am firing UMC and I get FTFeed about 30% of the time. I think must be the ammo and I load up some Hornady and get the same thing.

So I think nothing a fluff and buff can't handle but I still get the same issue even after a fluff and buff. I only fluff and buff with a cordless Dremel using CLP and a nylon wheel to clean it up then Flitz and a cloth wheel to polish it up. Nothing I use removes metal in anyway.

I poke around a bit online and some people recommend getting the 13 pound replacement spring so I have one of those on order. I figure for 8 bucks it is worth a try.

Based on what I have read online some people fix the issues with fluff and buff or a new spring. Some people I have read end up getting a new barrel to solve the issue.

Has anyone else had high FTFeed issues with the LCP and what did you do to solve it?

On a side note my wife got an LCP also and it shoots everything she puts into it so I know these are good little weapons.

Wow 90 views no responses? Can someone tell me a number to call Ruger? I gave my barrel and my wife's barrel a good inspection under my 4x magnifying lamp. I can clearly see a bur on mine that is not present on hers that is probably the culprit. I really do not want to sand down the bur so I figure I will call Ruger and ask for a replacement barrel.

Don't have a LCP, so can't help you there. As far as calling Ruger is concerned, http://www.ruger.com/footer/contact.html

If you can get to the burr to remove it, why don't you give it a shot with some 800 paper or Flitz polish? At best it will do the trick, at worst you may still ahve to send it back to Ruger to address. Another option is a local gunsmith.

I bought a LCP 3 weeks ago and it is an inexpensive ideal carry weapon. I have fired 300 rds through it and never a FTF. I use Remington factory .380 rounds and no jams......I do not use HP rounds. Pretty good from 45 ft for a 2.5" barrel which is really beyond the range you need a carry weapon for.
I know 4 others at my club who own the same Ruger LCP and they have had no FTFeed problems but they reload their own brass.

Thanks for the advice and the contact information. I will off on sanding the bur until I talk to Ruger I don't want to do anything that might invalidate the warranty.

When I had my LCP it wouldn't eat UMC or PMC ammo. I also had a few problems w/ Blazer. I only ran WWB & Remington green box and it fed with no problems. I carried w/ Hornady JHP as my SD ammo and that fired w/ no problems. Yes, I realize UMC is made by Remington, but it would FTE almost every 2-3 rounds.

I did end up selling it because I could never find any .380 ammo. I wanted to keep my skills up w/ the LCP but without ammo I couldn't. I had a couple boxes of WWB and was afraid to shoot it bacause I didn't know where to get more.

I replaced it with an SR9C and haven't looked back. I do miss it a little for summer carry.

Phanes I got my LCP in December of last year and started having FTFeed and failure to return to full battery after about 50-60 rounds. After much reading I polished the feed ramp using 1500 grit wet/dry sandpaper wrapped around a wooden dowel and replaced the factory 9lb slide spring with a Wolf 13 lb spring. I have not had another problem since the mods. Im not quite sure if my problems are the same as yours since you said you had high FTFeed issues. My problems was JHP ammo that would hang up on the feed ramp. Hope this helps.

Ruger will make warranty repairs, most of the time, that are even the fault of misuse.........they pride themselves on customer service.
I remember some time ago I had a nice Single Six that included 2 cylinders and i lost the magnum cylinder. I had my gun shop send it back to Ruger and they replaced the cylinder for FREE! Great company.

I do have the 13 pound in route but I can see a bur on the feed ramp and that is probably the culprit. I am hoping the 13 pounder can push past the bur if not I will have to send it back to Ruger.
