I think 6 months would work, so jail, not prison.

Actually,
I think if guys thinking like us were at the shoreline,a serious bloody beating,no broken bones, no knocking him out,
Just 2 minutes of pain, then give him ,say 3 minutes to sit on shore, and then explain that moose's fear was worse then his
ass kicking......he might get it!

Even if he doesn't get it, safe bet would not do it again!
