Are any scope rings available for gunsite that are peep through so you could still use Iron sights. I am wanting to mount over the reciever.

Are you wanting see thru rings so you can leave the scope in place and still use the peep or a quick detach setup so you can remove the scope and the peep still be there?

There was a base made years ago that had a flip up (maybe stationary) peep incorporated in it. Not sure if you could get anything for the gunsite tho. With the ruger reciever your options are very limited I'd imagine... Or very custom. Check out www.1000yardhunter.com. I bet he could build what ya want. I've got a scout and could take it to him to use for mocking it up if you work a deal with him. He's a GREAT machinist.

But maybe burris offers something? I think they make a weaver base adapter that attaches to the factory mounts. Maybe they offer a peep.

Burris does not offer a peep sight. There is really nothing out there to do what you are looking for. I suppose there is not enough demand. I was faced with the same delima on my Rem 600. I comprimised between scope height and having a peep sight instantly available when the scope is quick detached. I had to heavily modify an XS weaver base back-up sight and custom make a smaller aperature for it to make things work. But it does work very well. I'm not sure what could be done similarly on an M77. There is not much room on that rib behind the rear scope ring. Anyway you look at it, drill and tap would be necessary.

Or...

Mount a pic mounted peep as far back on the scout rail as possible. I have a barrel mounted peep on one of my marlins. It is very accurate and sits in the factory rear sight dovetail on my levergun.

Question is does anyone make one that sits low? I know lpa makes one but seems like it sits high...

Maybe skinner sights could make ya one that attaches to the holes where the scout rail attaches on the ruger? Guy's name is andy and he is a great guy. Maybe willing to work with ya. www.skinnersights.com

Thanks guys. My problem is scope reticle wants to touch the barrel so I need higher. Supposedly xs sights were making a picatinny rail that connected to gunsite and spanned over the reciever. However, I can't find it on their sight. It is in this video though.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IBNiqZsYKM

I read an article about that particular gathering at gunsite. I think I read that was a one off deal XS did for the author to mount that mark 8 scope. I guess if you can pay 5 grand for a scope, then a 3 or 400 dollar pic rail probably wouldn't hurt too bad. But the factory mount comes off to mount that one. It doesn't sit on top of the existing mount. It just mounts to the same holes.

Nice setup.

Fwiw, alton at dixie precision could do you a mount like that if its what you want.
