P39 9mm to complement the P345

Other than the argument between those who like, and those who disapprove of, the magazine-disconnect-safety - the very handsome Ruger P345 .45ACP, seems to have been well received. The P345 .45ACP is listed by Ruger as having first been “shipped” in 2004, to replace the original polymer-framed P97 .45ACP.

However, the P345 is now beginning to look a little lonely as Ruger’s only “modern” (as opposed to the earlier P97 and P95), hammer-fired, polymer-framed, pistol.

Whilst it has to be acknowledged that striker-fired pistols are becoming increasingly accepted, it is suggested that not everyone is yet prepared to go over completely to the "dark side", and accept the striker-fired mechanism of the “SR” pistols with their Glass-Filled Nylon (“Polymer”) frames.

Can others please comment . . . is there a place for a “modern” full-size, hammer-fired, polymer-framed, Ruger P3 9 9mm pistol, along the same lines as the P345 .45ACP ?!

I would not necessarily advocate the discontinuation, or replacement, of the popular, original, polymer-framed P95 9mm. It serves and could/should continue to serve as a “price-leader” introductory model to the fine range of Ruger pistols. It is suggested that there is the same differentiation,

. . . . between a P97 .45 ACP and a P345 .45ACP pistol,
and, between a P95 9mm and a P3 9 9mm pistol,

as there is a differentiation,

. . . . between a Ford and a Lincoln,
and, between a Buick and a Cadillac

I don't think Ruger would make 2 P-series 9mm's. I think they would do like they did with the P-series .45's. If they made a P-series on the same style as the 345, they would probably drop the P95. There are a lot of people that still prefer the heavier all metal guns, even for CCW. That will show in the acceptance of the SR1911, ever tho there are lots of other brands on the Market. I expect Ruger to come out with a similar 1911, maybe smaller, for CCW, in 9MM.

I for one, remain a fan of the P-345. When it first came out, I thought it would replace all of Ruger's old P series line in various calibers. But, for whatever the reason, Ruger opted for a striker fired pistol instead. Maybe what it boils down to is this, what is selling and what isn't.

I would like a 9mm styled after the P345 but I doubt Ruger will do it just for me.

I don't own either so I won't argue, but the P345 is much better than the P97 in the ergo department. It's nice and slim unlike the P97.

Ergos work differently for everyone : ) I actually think the P95 fits my hand better than the slimmer P97. I don't like slim guns

Different people have different hands. One gun won't fit all hands. That's the reason for the different styles of guns. I have the 90, 97, and 345. I have extra large hands. The 90 fits my hand better than the other two, and its what I carry. With large hands, I don't like small guns, and can't shoot them well.

I like the fit of the P90 with Hogue grips best, but I don't own one. I own two P97s just due to price and being available when I had the cash.
