Now that ruger has gone back to the satin finish on the blued rifes, when are they going to go back to the original stainless finish? I know that there was talk about it a while back but still havent seen anything else about it.

Im trying to figure out when I need to start saving for my next rifle. I know the gray stainless is probably better for hunting but I just like the lighter stainless.

Here are some pics of my stainless Mini-14 GBF and KAC556F. Notice the silightly different finishes and the factory correct front side mounted sling swivels.

And here's that darn "Happy Switch"

I noticed that your rear sight is cranked way up on your AC556. I remember that I had to raise mine almost to it's upper limits to get a 50 yard zero.

I think the mini I had was its own flavor of stainless compared to the MkII's. Not nearly as shiney. More like a matte brushed finish if you will. Not a bad finish imo and way better than the blasted matte finish on the Hawkeye.

I started the thread about Ruger doing away with the matte stainless. That is what I was told but was not told exactly when this would take place. My guess is that there are a lot of matte Hawkeyes on the shelf that need to move before they do anything. I'd bet they are not selling very fast so it may take awhile.

When Ruger went with these "new and improved" finishes some poeple said they liked them but I've heard 10 to 1 the opposite. Sales have to be hurting because I havn't bought a new one since the Hawkeye came out! :). I'm always scrounging for used or still nib MkII's still.

If you notice also , the 10/22's have been advertised as a new improved finish on the recievers as well. That matte 10/22 and the new finishes they tried on both stainless and blued 10/22's was an absolute "f" up of a gun!! Rugers experiment with cost cutting and putting crappy finishes on several lines of guns bit them hard enough imo that they are trying to recover from some lost sales now.
