OM Bearcat sn# question

[Chance]

Going to look at boxed "like new" Bearcat sn# 5545 on Monday. RENE places this as a 1960 gun while Dougan's pocket guide lists that sn# as 1961. My feeling is to go with the RENE info when the two don't agree. Anyone have any thoughts on which is the correct year?

NONE of the published s/n lists are the final answer. As a matter of fact, the worst of the lot is the one put together by SR&Co. for inclusion into Ruger and His Guns. Ruger's never been very careful about shipping guns in numerical order. Why should they?
