Hi ... new to this forum and to Rugers. I tried a couple of searches and surprisingly didn't see this topic discussed, but that may have been user error. I just got an LCP. Is it OK to dry fire it to my heart's content? This is also my first .380 and there don't seem to be "snap caps" around in that caliber.

Welcome to the forum from the Seattle area.

You can "dry fire" your LCP to your heart's content. Actually, I used to do it quite often when mine was new, it helped smooth out the action.

You should consider checking out the LCP forum, there is all sorts of good information there.

I wedge my right thumb into the hammer port when dry firing to retard the energy of the collision of the hammer.

Official response from Ruger..

Can you confirm that it is OK to dry fire the LCP. I saw a FAQ regarding same question for other pistols and that it is OK but just wanted to make sure for the LCP model. Thanks!

Response:
Yes, The firing pin in the Ruger LCP-Series pistols is of the inertia type and dry firing should cause no damage to the firearm. When handling the firearm, ensure compliance with all warnings and instructions contained in the instruction manual, and be especially careful to keep your firearm pointed in a safe direction.
